World Environment Day, 5th June is observed each year throughout the world, to focus attention on emerging environmental issues, and to induce public action. For 2011 UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme) has given the theme "Forests: Nature at Your Service" in alignment with the UN International Year of Forests, 2011.

Growth rates in various sectors are as follows: ‘agriculture, forestry and fishing’ (6.6 per cent), ‘mining and quarrying’ (5.8 per cent), ‘manufacturing’ (8.3 per cent), ‘electricity, gas and water supply’ (5.7 per cent) ‘construction’ (8.1 per cent), 'trade, hotels, transport and communication' (10.3 per cent), 'financing, insurance, real estate and business services' (9.9 per cent), and 'community, social and personal services' (7.0 per cent).


In its annual Global Wealth Report, management consulting firm Boston Consulting Group has listed the U.S., China, the U.K. and India as the nations showing the largest absolute gains in wealth in 2010.India has emerged among the four fastest wealth creator countries in the world and its growth momentum is expected to gather further steam going forward, a global study has said.
